“ Giovanni’s remains a delightful nostalgic icon in DuPont - come for the pasta, stay to chat or have a limoncello with the wonderful owner! It is true to its roots - little has changed here over time, but that’s not a bad thing. It is a great place to spend an evening as you are never rushed and can enjoy everything at your own pace. The service is friendly and helpful. I would say to expect a very authentic Italian meal (they make everything in house). Don’t expect an instagram worthy bathroom - this place has been here for literally 20 years, though it has changed ownership fairly recently! ”
“ Wow what an amazing find in downtown DC. Fresh made pasta, deep wine cellar and very knowledgeable staff. If your close, make the journey you will thank me! ”
“ Giovanni’s Trattu – 10/10 Stars! If you’re looking for an authentic Italian dining experience, Giovanni’s Trattu is an absolute gem. From the moment you walk in, you’re transported to a cozy, rustic corner of Italy. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, perfect for a romantic dinner or a relaxed evening with friends. The food? Outstanding. Every dish bursts with rich, traditional flavors – clearly crafted with love and quality ingredients. The pasta was perfectly al dente, the sauces were deeply flavorful, and the desserts were the kind you dream about long after the meal is over. Service was top-notch, too – attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. You can tell they care about giving guests a memorable experience. This place easily earns 10 stars in every category. Highly, highly recommended – a must-visit for any Italian food lover! ”
“ I will say, this place took my husband and I back to Italy when it came to the food! It was amazing. Our only complaint would be the portion size for my husband’s standard. Which, keep in mind is not their fault because he eats like a body builder or teenage boy. But honestly, the foods flavor was spot on! They also have limoncello and grappa! If we lived in DC we would very much be back! The customer service was FANTASTIC!!!! ”
“ Absolutely delicious Italian cuisine from an amazing and professional staff. Highly recommend the Italian cheesecake. ”
“ Loved this restaurant. Best Ravioli ever!! Chicken Parmesan, spaghetti, Bolognese, and Oso Buco were amazing.lovely people. Five stars all the way! ”
“ I had the most incredible dinner at Giovanni's Trattu! From the moment we walked in, the ambiance was warm, welcoming, and authentically Italian. The service was impeccable, with our server being both attentive and knowledgeable. The real star of the show, however, was the food. I ordered the Osso Buco, and it was simply divine. The veal was so tender it fell off the bone and melted in my mouth, and the rich, flavorful sauce was a perfect complement to the creamy risotto it was served on. Every single bite was a taste of heaven. I cannot recommend this place enough! ”
“ We went in hesitant because we were the first of the evening crowd. It didn’t take but 10 minutes and the whole place was packed. It is a small restaurant but every table was taken, many of them by locals that come often because of how great the food and the environment is. There are plaques all over the walls and pictures in the hallway of famous/well known people who have eaten there. This is some of the BEST ITALIAN FOOD I have ever eaten. We had fettuccine Alfredo and a seafood pasta that were amazing and the the cheesy garlic bread will forever haunt my dreams. Also, the wine was great too. This was the “don’t judge a book by it’s cover” story for us because although it looks quiet and quaint from the street, it had the most delicious food and warm family feel from the people there. I wouldn’t go back to D.C. to see anymore museums but I might go back to eat here again. ”
